CNBB denies involvement in fake news about Nossa Senhora Aparecida in electoral campaign

The National Conference of Bishops of Brazil (CNBB) denied involvement in spreading false information about Nossa Senhora Aparecida during the current electoral campaign. In a statement released on September 27, the CNBB said it did not produce, authorize, or participate in the creation or distribution of false reports related to the election.

The denial follows accusations made by Flávio Bolsonaro during a press statement in Goiânia. Bolsonaro claimed the CNBB spread a false story alleging that he would support a movement to remove the title of Nossa Senhora Aparecida from the official designation of the October 12 holiday. The CNBB responded by stating that lies should not be fought with more lies.
