Note storiche, la cupola della Cappella Clementina a San Pietro torna a splendere

The Fabbrica di San Pietro announced the restoration of the dome in the Clementine Chapel at St. Peter's Basilica. The project covers 371 square meters of mosaics created between 1601 and 1604 based on designs by Cristofano Roncalli, known as il Pomarancio.

The chapel was promoted by Clement VIII, born Ippolito Aldobrandini, and was designed by Michelangelo Buonarroti and completed by Giacomo della Porta in 1580. The space is part of the system of rooms surrounding the Confession of St. Peter. The dome features ornamental decorations including putti, garlands, and the Aldobrandini family heraldic symbols.

Scaffolding was installed in January 2025, allowing workers to examine the surfaces and identify issues caused by the natural degradation of the materials.
