Bishops recall legacy and pastoral dedication of Mons. Ricardo Centellas

Bishops from across Bolivia are honoring the pastoral legacy of Monsignor Ricardo Centellas, the late Archbishop of Sucre. The Church in Sucre scheduled four solemn memorial masses for Monday at the Metropolitan and Primatial Cathedral of Bolivia at 8:30, 10:30, 16:00, and 19:00. The funeral for the Archbishop will take place at the same cathedral on Tuesday, September 29, at 10:00.

To accommodate priests and delegations arriving from Chuquisaca, Potosí, Tarija, and La Paz, officials opened the cathedral atrium, the San Cristóbal Seminary, and the Chapel of the Virgin of Guadalupe as reception areas.

During weekend services, several bishops reflected on the life of Monsignor Centellas. Archbishop Percy Galván of La Paz spoke of their long friendship dating back to their time in youth ministry in Cinti and their seminary years. Auxiliary Bishop Emeritus Adolfo Bittschi of Sucre focused his homily on the Gospel and eternal rest. Bishops from Santa Cruz, El Alto, Pando, La Paz, and Cochabamba also shared messages regarding his service.
