Ocean City parish ministry named Disciples of Mercy

The Parish Nurse/Helping Hands Ministry at Saint Augustine Church in Ocean City has been named a Disciple of Mercy. Catholic Charities of South Jersey will recognize the ministry during its annual Dinner and Awards Ceremony on Oct. 21 in Atlantic City.

Founded in August 2021 by coordinator Rosemary Kates, the ministry uses a team of retired physicians, nurses, and volunteers to support local seniors and others in achieving physical, spiritual, and emotional wellness. The group assists community members by providing meals, driving individuals to medical appointments, and helping them participate in parish events.

The ministry's work includes supporting parishioners like Louise, a senior with multiple sclerosis, by assisting with her move to an assisted living facility and maintaining her connection to the parish. The program also assists individuals like Josuè, a parishioner navigating the healthcare system following spinal surgery.
