Churches are appealing to Pope Leo XIV as more than 6,000 residents face a humanitarian catastrophe in Oleshky and nearby areas in Ukraine. Local authorities estimate that these residents, including approximately 200 children, remain trapped in occupied territory.

The population is stuck in a frontline zone located directly across from the Ukrainian-controlled city of Kherson. According to local officials, residents deal with daily artillery fire, unexploded munitions, and tactical drones that circle the area.
