On a wing, faithful send their prayers

Families and friends gathered at the Calvary Cemetery chapel in Cherry Hill on Sept. 18 for a memorial Mass to honor those who died during the past year.

Retired diocesan priest Father Walter Norris celebrated the Mass and spoke during his homily about how the butterfly symbolizes the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus. Following the service, attendees released butterflies throughout the cemetery to remember their loved ones.

South Jersey Catholic Cemeteries organized the event. The organization has held these memorial Masses featuring butterfly releases since 2013 at its four diocesan managed cemeteries.
