Opus Dei spokesman publishes book to address misconceptions
Jack Valero, the United Kingdom spokesman for Opus Dei, has published a book titled "Opus Dei Unfiltered: Why I Joined the Work" to address misconceptions about the organization. Valero, who has served as the spokesman for 25 years, wrote the book to move away from official, top-down explanations and instead use a bottom-up approach.
The book features the testimonies and experiences of approximately 20 members to explain the apostolate founded by St. Josemaría Escrivá de Balaguer in 1928. Valero told ACI Prensa that having members speak about their own lives is more effective and provides a more realistic view of what it means to belong to the Catholic Church's only personal prelature.
The text includes perspectives from various member categories, including supernumeraries, who are married, as well as numeraries and associates, who are celibate for apostolic reasons. It also features assistant numeraries.
