Pope Leo XIV issued a letter to the bishops of Peru to mark the third centenary of the canonization of Saint Turibius de Mogrovejo, the patron saint of Latin American bishops. In the letter, the pope highlighted the saint's dedication to evangelization, his work in renewing Church life, and his closeness to the poor and vulnerable.

The pope noted that Saint Turibius built connections with the local people by traveling throughout the region and seeking to announce the Gospel in local languages. Following this example, Pope Leo XIV encouraged bishops to leave their desks and personally meet their communities. He stated that certain aspects of a diocese cannot be understood from an office and urged bishops to listen to their flock, specifically seeking out those who rarely have the chance to meet a bishop.
