Pope Leo XIV will visit Metz on Monday, September 28, 2026, to deliver a speech on European roots, peace, and unity. During the fourth day of his apostolic journey through France, the pope will also celebrate a mass for peace at Saint-Etienne Cathedral.

Bishop Philippe Ballot, the bishop of Metz, noted that the border region between France and Germany serves as a symbol of reconciliation and meeting after its history of war. The area is also recognized as the home of Robert Schuman, one of the founding fathers of Europe.
