Parable of the Two Sons – Word and Art with Bishop Dolan

Bishop John Dolan is reflecting on the Parable of the Two Sons through the lens of a 2012 painting by Russian artist Andrei Mironov.

The reflection is part of the Twenty-sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time. According to Gabe Salcido of The Catholic Sun, the artwork uses postures and gestures instead of words to depict two different sons. One son appears resistant and defiant toward his father, while the other appears respectful and obedient. The painting shows that both sons eventually change, as the defiant son repents and the obedient son fails to follow through on his initial agreement.
