Parish of Caleta de Vélez celebrates 80 years of faith and maritime tradition

The parish of Caleta de Vélez celebrated 80 years of Christian life and maritime tradition during a recent Eucharist. The community honored its history dating back to 1946, specifically recognizing the founders, benefactors, priests, and parishioners who built the parish.

During the celebration, the parish presented the Medalla Pro Ecclesia Malacitana to María del Carmen Pendón Martín for her service and dedication to the local community. The liturgy also included prayers for fishermen and maritime workers.

Parish priest John Fredy Echavarría said the anniversary served as a time to give thanks for eight decades of service and the community's identity. He noted the parish remains closely tied to the devotion of the Virgin of Carmen, the patroness of the area and protector of those at sea.
