Paróquia São Sebastião begins emergency work on the ceiling and launches a restoration campaign for the Igreja Matriz

St. Sebastian Parish has started emergency repairs on its ceiling and launched a fundraising campaign to restore the Mother Church. The work began after part of the ceiling detached from the structure, which has not undergone structural interventions in 27 years.

Following a mass on Sunday, September 20, volunteers began removing religious images and partially dismantling the sanctuary. On Monday, September 21, teams started replacing the old ceiling with new drywall. Parish priest Gustavo Ribeiro said the decision to act was made with the parish council and pastoral coordinators to ensure the safety of the faithful and preserve the sacred space.

The ceiling repairs are the first step in a larger revitalization project. Future improvements planned for the church include work on the pews, flooring, side rooms, sacristy, parish office, and secretary's office. To fund these projects, the parish launched a restoration campaign using payment booklets to invite the community and diocesan faithful to contribute.
