General Hervé Wattecamps, the coordinator for the papal visit to Paris, stated that if twice as many young people had attended a meeting with the Pope, they could have filled two stadiums in Saint-Denis.

Wattecamps drew on his experience from the 1986 visit of John Paul II to prepare the capital for the apostolic journey. He recalled the impression of seeing the Pope for the first time and the feeling that the Holy Father looked at and blessed everyone.
