Philippine cardinal calls for enactment of law against political dynasties (CBCP News)

Cardinal Pablo Virgilio S. David of Kalookan has called on Philippine lawmakers to pass a law prohibiting political dynasties.

The cardinal noted that while the 1987 constitution requires Congress to enact such legislation, the document did not set a specific deadline for completion. He stated that thirty-nine years is sufficient time for the legislature to act. This request follows a recent ruling from the Philippine Supreme Court, which urged Congress to fulfill its constitutional duty to address the issue.
