Pisa: Anima Mundi, il Camposanto monumentale accoglie il Cantico delle creature

The Orchestra Cremona Antiqua will perform at the Camposanto in Pisa on Monday, September 21, at 9:00 p.m. as part of the 25th Anima Mundi festival. The program features the Canticle of the Creatures by Pietro Dinetto, a piece that won the 18th Anima Mundi international sacred composition competition.

The performance will present Dinetto's work as a melologo, using a narrator to recite the text while a string orchestra provides musical accompaniment. This year, the competition selected the Canticle of the Creatures as the required text to mark the 800th anniversary of the death of Saint Francis of Assisi. The musical program also includes works by Geminiani, Vivaldi, and Alessandro Scarlatti.

The event is produced by the Opera della Primaziale Pisana with support from Fondazione Pisa and patronage from the Comune di Pisa and the Dicastero per la Cultura e l’Educazione of the Holy See. Maestro Trevor Pinnock serves as the artistic director. The orchestra includes Gian Andrea Guerra on violin, Nicola Brovelli on cello, Massimiliano Pegorini as narrator, and Antonio Greco conducting on harpsichord.
