Pope Leo: Europe must return to path of dialogue, not military buildup

Pope Leo XIV urged European leaders to choose peaceful dialogue instead of military buildups to resolve conflicts. Speaking at the Robert Schuman convention centre in Metz, France, on Sept. 28, 2026, the pope warned against the illusion that increasing military strength provides a solution to war.

The remarks came during the first day of the pope's four-day visit to France.
