Pope Leo XIV addresses the Diocese of Rome

Pope Leo XIV addressed the Diocese of Rome at the Basilica of San Giovanni in Laterano, calling on the local Church to remain connected to the city's needs and transformations. During his speech, the Pope told the gathered community that rather than following a new pastoral program, they should adopt a style centered on the concept of verifying or seeking truth to stay in solidarity with the city's wounds and expectations.

The Pope warned that an increase in activities, meetings, and proposals can sometimes cause the Church to lose its evangelical focus. He encouraged pastoral workers to move beyond simply asking what to do and instead focus on personal encounters with Christ.

Pope Leo XIV also announced that he has approved the start of the cause for canonization of Luigi di Liegro, the founder of Caritas Capitolina.
