Pope Leo XIV spends first night in hospital

Catholic IntelligenceUpdated 1 min read

Pope Leo XIV spent a calm night at Gemelli Hospital in Rome following surgery to remove a cancerous lung tumor. The Holy See Press Office reported on October 14 that the pontiff had a peaceful night after undergoing a 90-minute procedure on Tuesday, October 13.

Medical bulletins state that surgeons used a video-assisted technique to remove the lower lobe of the Pope's right lung to treat an adenocarcinoma. The surgery was successful and without complications. The Holy See Press Office indicated that more information regarding his condition would be released later in the day.
