Pope Leo XIV exhorts Diocese of Rome to pastoral evaluation

Pope Leo XIV called on the Diocese of Rome to conduct a shared pastoral evaluation during the opening of the Roman pastoral year at the Basilica of Saint John Lateran on Friday, September 18.

The Pope presented a method of pastoral discernment to representatives from all 134 Roman parishes. He stated that this process is not intended to increase the workload but to improve the quality of Church activities. According to Vatican News, the Pope explained that the goal is to do less but better by realistically assessing whether current activities have moved away from the core mission of facilitating encounters with Christ.

This evaluation process focuses on meeting Christ, building community, and serving the city.
