Pope Leo XIV prays Angelus with faithful

Pope Leo XIV led the Angelus prayer with pilgrims and faithful in Saint Peter's Square on Sunday, September 20, 2026. Appearing from his study window in the Vatican Apostolic Palace, the pope reflected on the 25th Sunday of Ordinary Time.

During his introduction to the prayer, the pope spoke about the prophet Isaiah's message that God's ways and thoughts differ from human ones. He stated that God's plans are much larger and more human than those conceived by people. He encouraged listeners to abandon flawed ways and return to a God defined by mercy and forgiveness.

Commenting on the Gospel parable of the laborers in the vineyard, the pope noted that while Jesus' parables show the newness of God's intentions, they also reveal human resistance to greater love and more generous justice. He highlighted how the landowner in the parable showed goodness by paying all workers the same, regardless of when they were hired.
