Pope Leo XIV remembers Ibiza martyrs in General Audience

Catholic IntelligenceUpdated 1 min read

Pope Leo XIV honored 20 martyred priests from Ibiza and Formentera during a general audience on Wednesday. The Pope noted that Juan Torres Torres and 19 fellow priests were beatified on Saturday, October 17, in Ibiza, Spain.

The Pope described the priests as victims of religious persecution in the last century who were killed due to hatred of the faith. He stated that their testimony encourages people to offer their lives as acts of love to God and others.

During the same audience, the Pope expressed hope that the "Psalms of Peace" concert would serve the cause of reconciliation. He is currently recovering from surgery performed last week and is gradually returning to his regular schedule.
