Pope Leo XIV tells new bishops: "We are bishops, but above all we are disciples"

Pope Leo XIV told recently appointed bishops on Thursday that they must prioritize their relationship with Christ above their roles as leaders of a diocese. During a meeting with the new bishops, the Pope stated that while they hold the office of bishop, they are first and foremost disciples.

The Pope offered several orientations to help the new bishops prepare for their mission. He reminded them that staying close to Christ should be the primary focus among their many responsibilities.
