Prévention des abus : ensemble, soyons vigilants

The Diocese of Saint-Hyacinthe will hold its first month of prevention from September 15 to October 15. Under the theme "Ensemble, soyons vigilants!", the program will address prevention across 57 parishes and throughout all diocesan activities to improve safety in Church meetings and spaces.

Denis Lépine, the delegate of the bishop to the protection of persons, stated that a committee for prevention and protection against sexual abuse was established in the diocese in 2017. This led to the implementation of a reference framework two years later to ensure the safety of Church workers.

Current safety measures include ethics and vigilance training for those involved in Church activities. The diocese also requires criminal background checks for all employees and volunteers working with vulnerable groups in both parishes and the diocese.
