Unknown persons desecrate the tabernacle of a church in Lugo and scatter the consecrated hosts in the square

Unknown persons desecrated the tabernacle at the Sacred Heart of Mary parish church in Guitiriz, Lugo, on Saturday, September 19. According to the Diocese of Mondoñedo-Ferrol, the individuals removed the tabernacle from its place, forced the lock, and opened it to take a silver ciborium. The perpetrators then scattered the consecrated hosts in the town square and stole the silver vessel.

The diocese described the incident as a very serious act and a direct affront to the Eucharist. In an official statement, the diocese noted that the event deeply wounds the religious feelings of Catholics and the Guitiriz parish community.

Bishop Fernando Garcia Cadiñanos will preside over a Mass of reparation at the church on September 29.
