The meditation addresses a question regarding how many times one should forgive an offense. According to the Diocese, Jesus responded to a suggestion of seven times by stating one should forgive seventy times seven, signifying that forgiveness should occur whenever an offense happens.

The teaching uses a parable about a king and his servants to explain why constant forgiveness is required. In the story, a king forgives a servant a massive debt out of compassion, but that same servant refuses to forgive a friend a much smaller amount. The king eventually punishes the unmerciful servant, illustrating that God's willingness to forgive those who are sincerely repentant should shape how people treat others.
