Rappel à Dieu – Père Léo Scherer (jésuite)

The Archdiocese of Montpellier announced the death of Father Léo Scherer, a Jesuit priest, who died on August 11, 2026, at the age of 97.

Father Scherer helped establish Ignatian spirituality within the diocese. Starting in the 1990s, he supported the spiritual formation of catechists and organized spiritual retreat days. He also served as a spiritual director, trainer, and supervisor for many people in the local Church. His work continues through the Pôle Ignatien 34 and the Christian Life Communities.

Father Scherer authored several books published by Éditions Vie Chrétienne, including Le Combat Spirituel and Repères pour la vie spirituelle. Father Bernard Boissezon noted that Scherer's teachings and his witness to God's mercy left a lasting impact on those he accompanied.
