Recovery Efforts Continue Following the August Floods in Nepal
Humanitarian efforts in Nepal have shifted from search and rescue to relief and recovery following the August 26 floods in the Rasuwa-Bhotekoshi area. According to a government report from September 21, the disaster resulted in 1,451 deaths, while 5,745 people remain missing.
United Nations sources indicate that nearly 4,000 displaced people were living in 37 sites across Nuwakot, Rasuwa, Dhading, and Kathmandu. Many other affected individuals are staying with relatives, host communities, or in rented housing rather than official shelters. The disaster has impacted an estimated 22,100 children, including 7,048 children under the age of five, 8,933 breastfeeding mothers, and 1,685 pregnant women.
The FPMT Emergency Relief Fund, Kopan Monastery, and Kopan Nunnery are providing support to the affected communities. On September 11, the Kopan Sangha performed a Fire Puja dedicated to the victims of the Rasuwa floods.
