Reliance on God: a practical and prayerful strategy for remarkable growth

Saint Clement Catholic School in Hayward has seen its enrollment grow by 27 percent over the last six years, rising from 220 students in 2020 to 280 students. Principal Veronica Hernandez attributes this growth to a reliance on prayer rather than specific academic platforms or organized faith programs.

Hernandez, a 22-year veteran of Catholic education, said prayer must be a first resort rather than a last resort. She noted that her transition into her first principal role occurred just 72 hours after applying during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The school recently earned a full six-year accreditation from the Western Catholic Educational Association. Under Hernandez's leadership, the school has also expanded its academic programs, improved campus safety, invested in facilities, and strengthened its Catholic identity.
