Religious Leaders in Ghana Resolve to Promote Interfaith Understanding in Schools

Religious leaders in Ghana plan to establish interfaith clubs in schools to encourage mutual respect and peaceful coexistence among students. According to a statement shared with ACI Africa on August 31, the leaders resolved to create mechanisms to introduce and strengthen these clubs to help students appreciate the traditions and values of different faith communities.

The decision follows the 4th Annual Dialogue Meeting held on August 5, which was hosted by the Office of the National Chief Imam. Approximately 150 representatives from religious bodies and government institutions attended the meeting. Participants discussed how faith-based organizations can help address growing indiscipline in Ghanaian schools.

The leaders stated that these initiatives should promote respect for religious diversity while strengthening shared values that support responsible citizenship. The goal is to foster social cohesion and religious tolerance among learners through stronger engagement between different faith groups.
