Remembering the Past, Safeguarding the Future

The Diocese of Maitland–Newcastle observes Perpetual Day of Remembrance and Safeguarding Sunday each September to reflect on the impact of abuse within the Church.

The diocese uses this day to encourage people to face the truth of how lives were changed by abuse and to acknowledge that children were not protected. The observance serves as a way to recognize broken trust and the lasting wounds caused by these actions.
