Riaperta la chiesa di San Francesco a Tolentino

Bishop Nazzareno Marconi and Mayor Mauro Sclavi welcomed local authorities and parishioners to the reopening of the Church of St. Francis in Tolentino on Thursday, September 17. The reopening follows the damage caused by the 2016 earthquake.

The event coincides with the Franciscan jubilee year declared by Pope Leo XIV to mark the eighth centenary of the death of the patron saint of Italy. Bishop Marconi noted that while buildings can be restored, the reopening serves as a call for spiritual renewal within the local communities that inhabit these structures.

Mayor Sclavi stated that the reopening of the St. Francis collegiate church, following the previous reopening of the Chapel of St. Nicholas, is a fundamental step for the community. He described the church as a vital center for social gathering, cultural growth, and religious life that allows the city to reclaim its historical and ecclesiastical heritage ten years after the earthquake.
