Rifugiati: 44 arrivi dalla Turchia a Fiumicino

44 people from Turkey arrived at Fiumicino on September 16, including 13 children, as part of the national resettlement program of Italy. The group consists of Afghan and Iranian citizens, many of whom were selected for particular vulnerability, including survivors of violence and torture.

The transfer was carried out with the collaboration of the Ministry of the Interior, other competent authorities, UNHCR, and partners involved in reception and integration. This resettlement allows people who cannot return to their country of origin due to conflict, persecution, or serious human rights violations to be transferred from a country of first asylum to another country that offers international protection.

Francesca Bonelli, the UNHCR representative for Italy, the Holy See, Malta, and San Marino, expressed appreciation for the safe arrival of the group and the collaboration of Italian authorities and partners. The operation is part of a project funded by the Fondo asilo, migrazione e integrazione (Fami) 2021-2027, which supports the Italian resettlement and humanitarian admission system and the creation of safe and regular entry channels.
