Pope names Jean Abou Charouche Apostolic Exarch for Melkite Greek Catholics in Argentina

Pope Francis has appointed Jean Abou Charouche as the Apostolic Exarch for Melkite Greek Catholics living in Argentina. The Holy See Press Office announced that the appointment also elevates Charouche to the rank of bishop, assigning him the titular see of Mira for Melkite Greek Catholics.

Charouche is a member of the Society of Missionaries of Saint Paul. He has served as the parish priest of St. George Cathedral in Córdoba, Argentina, since 2015.

Born in Chiyah, Lebanon, in 1972, Charouche studied philosophy and theology at the Saint Paul Minor Seminary in Harissa. He was ordained a priest on August 16, 1998, and has spent much of his ministry training future religious and priests.
