Salaam Wa Alaikum!

Fr. Kurt Zion Pala visited Mufti Irfann and his family in Myanmar to celebrate Eid al-Fitr, the holiday marking the end of Ramadan fasting. During the visit, the family shared traditional Burmese sweets, coconut samay, and semolina pudding called Sa-Nwin-Ma-Kin.

Mufti Irfann is an Islamic scholar, lawyer, and master of the Arabic language and the Quran. He operates a language center where he teaches English and Arabic to various students. While Irfann is of Kachin descent from the Sumprabum hills, his family converted to Islam, making him part of a rare group of practicing Muslim Kachins. Most of his relatives remain Catholic.
