San Jenaro - 19 de septiembre

The Church celebrates the feast of San Jenaro, the Bishop of Benevento, on September 19.

According to tradition, San Jenaro was arrested by soldiers while attempting to assist imprisoned Christians. He and several companions, including deacons Sosio, Proculo, and Festo, lector Desiderio, and Christians Eutiquio and Acucio, were sentenced to death by being thrown into a burning furnace. Tradition holds that the flames miraculously left them unharmed. He suffered martyrdom around the year 305 during the persecutions under Diocleciano.

His relics are kept in a chapel dedicated to him within the Naples Cathedral. The people of Naples maintain a deep devotion to San Jenaro, viewing his blood as a symbol of their Christian life and celebrating it annually.
