The Church celebrates the feast of San Mateo, Apóstol y Evangelista, on September 21.

According to Primeros Cristianos, San Mateo was likely a tax collector in Cafarnaúm named Leví when Jesus called him to join the Doce. He is the author of one of the four evangelios. While there are no certain details regarding the places in Oriente where he preached, he died a martyr, likely in Persia.
