Church celebrates feast of Saints Michael, Gabriel and Raphael

The Church celebrates the feast of the Archangels Michael, Gabriel, and Raphael on September 29. This joint celebration follows the 1969 liturgical reform which established this date to honor the three archangels.

The feast honors the distinct roles of each archangel within Church tradition. Michael, whose name means "Who is like God," is recognized for the combat involving the faithful angels and Lucifer. Gabriel, meaning "Strength of God," is honored for his role in announcing a mystery to Mary. Raphael, meaning "Medicine of God," is remembered as a healer and companion to Tobias.
