Monsignor Christophe-Zakhia El-Kassis, the new permanent observer of the Holy See to the United Nations, spoke at a conference in New York on September 17 to address the fight against hate speech.

He stated that speech targeting individuals or communities based on religion, ethnicity, nationality, or other characteristics fuels violence and persecution. El-Kassis said such rhetoric poisons public debate, increases divisions, and weakens freedom.
