São Francisco/800 anos: «O perdão é o único caminho para a paz», afirma irmã Maria Amélia Costa

Sister Maria Amélia Costa, a religious sister and composer from the Congregation of the Franciscan Hospitaller Sisters of the Immaculate Conception, stated that forgiveness is the only way to achieve peace. Speaking to Agência Ecclesia regarding the 800th anniversary of the death of Saint Francis of Assisi, she emphasized the need for the detachment practiced by the saint.

Costa warned that a global focus on possession could lead to the destruction and death of thousands of children. She noted that people often struggle to forgive the inconsistency and lack of credibility in the lives of others. To counter the risks posed by the fast pace of modern society, she suggested that humanity needs to embrace silence and a slower rhythm to allow for contemplative prayer.

As a composer, Costa creates music inspired by Saint Francis, aiming to translate the experience of God through song and words. She expressed that the desire to follow the example of the 13th-century saint is present in everyone who seeks peace.
