SCN Ministry Fund supports clean water projects

The SCN Ministry Fund is supporting several organizations to improve water quality and sustainability in Kentucky. During the Season of Creation, the fund has provided resources to groups working to protect local waterways and habitats.

The fund supports Bluegrass Greensource, which uses education and community resources to promote sustainability. This includes promoting rain barrels to reduce stormwater runoff that carries soil sediment into rivers and creeks. The fund also assists Kentucky Watershed Watch, a volunteer organization that tracks water quality. Volunteers from this group sample more than 2,000 stream locations throughout the year to provide data for improving Kentucky's waterways.

Additionally, the fund supports New Pioneers for a Sustainable Future in Springfield. This organization provides watershed education to local schools, summer camps, and the Springfield Green Festival. Julia Gerwe-Nicholson, a director for New Pioneers, noted that children attending their summer camp have reported seeing signs of healthy waterways, such as vegetative buffers around lakes and rivers, after the program ends.
