Scripture-based group helps deal with grief

St. Bernard Parish in Green Bay hosts the GriefShare support group, a program that uses Scripture to help people cope with the death of family members or friends.

Program coordinator Beverly Van Lieshout, a long-time member of the group, says the program helps participants ease the pain of loss through prayer and connection with others facing similar struggles. Van Lieshout noted that grief can be particularly difficult during holidays when the absence of loved ones is most visible.

Van Lieshout began helping others after experiencing the loss of 3 family members in 2021. This included the unexpected death of her brother, David Bain, following a massive coronary.
