SEASON OF CREATION: AFRICA IMMERSES ITSELF IN LIVING WATER

Catholic communities across Africa are participating in the Season of Creation through various environmental and prayer initiatives. The annual observance began on September 1 and will conclude on October 4, the feast of St. Francis of Assisi. This year's theme, "Immersion in Living Water," encourages Christians to engage in contemplation, immersion, and sending out through prayer and practical action.

According to SECAM, different countries are implementing specific projects to care for the environment. Kenya is working on tree planting and projects involving solar energy, agroecology, and clean water. In Cameroon, efforts focus on raising awareness about river pollution, while Uganda is mobilizing religious communities and Laudato Si’ members for advocacy and environmental clean-ups. Additionally, South Africa and Zambia have promoted prayer and participation within their dioceses.
