Second German bishop in two weeks resigns, citing ‘toll of office’

Pope Leo XIV accepted the resignation of Bishop Heinrich Timmerevers from his role leading the diocese of Dresden-Meissen in Germany. The 74-year-old bishop stated that the many responsibilities and challenges of his position have taken an enormous toll on him. He noted that the diocese requires leadership with boundless energy.

This resignation marks the second German bishop to step down in two weeks. The previous departure involved a 66-year-old bishop who cited psychological strain as the reason for leaving his office.
