“Self-reliance rooted in faith”: South Sudanese Catholic Bishop Lauds Local Resource-Mobilization Milestones

Bishop Eduardo Hiiboro Kussala praised the progress of the Humekodabe-Humekodabera Foundation, a local effort to fund the pastoral and missionary needs of the Catholic Diocese of Tombura-Yambio in South Sudan. During the annual Humekodabe-Humekodabera event on September 17, the bishop described the initiative as a way for Christians to collectively support the diocese and achieve self-reliance through faith.

The foundation began in 2012 following the diocese's centenary of the Catholic faith. Bishop Hiiboro said the milestone prompted the local Church to consider how it could sustain its own mission rather than relying solely on outside help. He noted that while the journey toward independence has been slow, the goal is not to reject the support of partners and benefactors. The bishop described the foundation as a long-held dream that required prayer and perseverance to develop.
