Cardinal Matteo Zuppi leads Consiglio Episcopale Permanente session

Cardinal Matteo Zuppi led the autumn session of the Permanent Council of Bishops in Rome from September 21 to 23. The bishops focused their discussions on the responsibility of passing on the faith in the modern world.

During the opening of the session, Cardinal Zuppi noted an invitation from Pope Leo XIV to the May General Assembly to become communities that are more free to announce Christ. The bishops discussed how the Gospel remains the priority, ranging from the missionary life of pastoral communities to a faith that responds to the questions of individuals through concrete actions.

The bishops stated that announcing Christ must not be an abstract concept but must involve closeness and listening. They noted that the transmission of faith requires attention to how it affects daily thinking, relationships, and responsibilities. According to the council's final statement, this process is supported by the Word, prayer, and the celebration of the Eucharist.
