Mexico City will conduct the Second National Drill 2026 this Saturday at 12:00 p.m. to test emergency response capabilities in homes, neighborhoods, and housing units. According to Salvador Guerrero Chiprés of Desde la Fe, this exercise expands safety preparations beyond schools, offices, and workplaces to include residential areas where formal emergency brigades may not be present.

The drill takes place on September 19, a date associated with significant seismic memory in the capital. Chiprés notes that historical responses to earthquakes in the region have combined community organization with spiritual devotion, such as the veneration of Saint Emigdius of Ascoli. The third-century bishop and martyr has been honored as a protector against earthquakes since the 1703 seismic events in Italy, a tradition that later spread to New Spain.
