“Some crosses are preventable,” Catholic Archbishop Urges Nigerian Leaders to Address Suffering

Archbishop Ignatius Ayau Kaigama of the Catholic Archdiocese of Abuja urged Nigerian leaders to address insecurity and unemployment during a homily at St. Augustine Parish on August 30. He told government officials that while citizens are encouraged to face challenges with faith, many hardships such as poverty and the rising cost of living are preventable.

Kaigama told leaders to listen to the people and find effective ways to end suffering instead of becoming irritated or making excuses when confronted with these issues. He stated that those in authority have a responsibility to serve the vulnerable with fairness, protect human dignity, and build a more just society.

The archbishop delivered these remarks during a mass where he confirmed 107 candidates. He also encouraged Nigerians to seek truth and accountability in society.
