Bishop Emmanuel Bernardino Lowi Napeta condemns violence after Sisters attacked

Bishop Emmanuel Bernardino Lowi Napeta condemned the rising insecurity in South Sudan following an ambush on a vehicle traveling along the Juba–Torit highway. The attack, which occurred on August 30, involved armed bandits who targeted all passengers in the car rather than the religious sisters specifically.

During the incident, the bandits dragged the passengers into the bushes and looted their personal belongings. One of the sisters from the Order of Discalced Carmelites was hit and injured during the encounter. Bishop Napeta stated that he arranged for the sisters to be driven to Juba to receive medical treatment for their injuries.

In an interview with Radio Emmanuel, the bishop noted that such violence affects both Church personnel and ordinary citizens. He urged the government to address the growing insecurity in the country.
