Mater Dei High School has hired alumna Kendyl Weinzapfel as the new head coach for the varsity softball program.

Weinzapfel, a 2019 graduate, previously played four years of varsity softball for the school and was part of the 2016 state championship team. During her junior and senior years, she earned All-SIAC honors. She later played for four years at Austin Peay University, where she served as team captain during her final season.

Since returning to the Evansville area, Weinzapfel has coached the 11U and 12U programs for the Southern Indiana Boom travel softball organization. Her coaching experience emphasizes player development, fundamentals, and team culture, according to a school press release. Athletic Director Sam Fleming stated that Weinzapfel's experience as a former player will help her lead the program.
