St. Francis’ Humble Life Connects 800 Years Later

Bishop Robert Brennan has allowed the faithful the option to celebrate the feast day of St. Francis of Assisi using the saint's specific prayers and readings instead of the standard prayers for the 27th Sunday in Ordinary Time. This decision marks the 800th anniversary of the death of St. Francis.

The feast day readings include Micah 6:6-8, Psalm 16, Galatians 6:14-18, and Matthew 11:25-30. According to Father James Rodriguez, the saint is remembered for renouncing wealth and influence to live a life of humility and devotion to the Eucharist.
